Following the RFU announcement this weekend delaying the start of the competitive community rugby season until the week commencing 21st September at the earliest, we would like to provide an update on rugby activity at Royal Wootton Bassett RFC.

Pre-Season Fixtures

Unfortunately, current conditions mean a number of our planned Senior pre-season fixtures will no longer go ahead as scheduled:

Senior Women

🚫 vs Ashley Down RFC – Cancelled

Senior Men

🚫 vs Cleve RFC – Cancelled
🚫 vs Devizes RFC – Cancelled
🚫 vs Grove RFC – Cancelled

We will work with the clubs involved and, where possible, look to rearrange these fixtures for later dates.

London Scottish Fixture

Our Senior Men’s fixture against London Scottish (Saturday 5th September) has already been reversed and will now be played AWAY on their AGP.

We hope this can remain in place and now become our first fixture of the season.

Training Update

Training will continue across the club, with junior sections returning at various points throughout August.

Minis Rugby

Minis age groups (U6–U12) will return on Sunday 6 September.

All training will be adapted appropriately to current conditions and in line with RFU guidance. Contact activity will remain restricted until it is safe to introduce limited contact training.

Pitch & Site Guidance

While the ground at Ballards Ash remains extremely dry and hard, we ask everyone to help us protect the facilities:

  • Players should wear moulded boots or trainers wherever possible.
  • Spectators, parents, and all visitors are asked not to smoke on or around any pitches due to the increased fire-risk.

We appreciate everyone’s enthusiasm to return to rugby, but the safety of our players, visitors, and the long-term condition of our pitches must remain the priority.

Please watch this space as we continue to provide updates as conditions and RFU guidance develop.
