The Royal Wootton Bassett RFC Vice Presidents Section

RWBRFC run a healthy Vice Presidents section whose aims are to support the club on and off the field in any way possible. Most VPs are former players at RWBRFC or other clubs. We also have the support of many local businesses who wish to support local rugby in their community.

Home Lunches

Each season, four home lunches are held before important league fixtures. Between 80 and 120 Vice Presidents, Life Members, and guests, including those from our opponents, attend. They enjoy a fine meal, rugby camaraderie and yes, a few beers before cheering on the team. Catering this season will again be by Ian Bowyer Catering, who have catered for many events at the club over the last few seasons.

The dates confirmed for Vice President Lunches for 2025/26 are:

  •  06 September 2025 - RWBRFC 2nd XV vs Old Centralians 1st XV

  • 04 October 2025 - RWBRFC 1st XV vs Topsham RFC (Exeter)

  • 22 November 2025 - RWBRFC 1st XV vs St Austell RFC

  • 17 January 2026 - RWBRFC 1st XV vs Launceston RFC

  • 21 March 2026 - RWBRFC 1st XV vs Brixham RFC

"Away Days"

In recent seasons, there have been occasional "Away Days" where the Vice Presidents travel to support the club at an away league fixture. This is always a well-supported and enjoyable occasion. It is hoped that this will be possible for the 2024/2025 season, but details are yet to be confirmed.

Our leader

The Vice Presidents have been led for many seasons now by former club captain George Loughlin who is assisted by numerous volunteers in making the event happen. Any additional help is always welcome.

Our former leader

The section was previously led by veteran' veteran Alan 'Wing Commander' Belding who remains a legend in his own lunchtime. He lectures, very slowly, on a very small variety of subjects among the most interesting! being Chemical Toilet facilities in various coaches and buses and Motorway coning and temporary highway arrangements in Southern England. On both subjects, given a fair hearing he is perfectly capable of boring you completely numb and senseless. He is the subject of a serious scientific study as a potentially natural and drug free anaesthetic.
