The sun was shining, the rugby was flowing and Ballards Ash was looking rather good in Week Three! ☀️
Our Minis, Juniors, Ravens and Colts were all back in action, with plenty of new faces joining the sessions and getting their first taste of rugby at Bassett.
Here are the highlights:
Under 7s | Harrison
Our Under 7s player of the week this week was Harrison.
He scored several tries in the positional game and 4v4. Staying on the pitch and onside. He backed his teammates up well and was brave after a collision. Well done Harrison!

Under 8s | Rory
It was a lovely sunny day, and the kids were full of energy at training this week. We started with some circle tag to get everyone moving.
Our skills session this week focused on running with the ball — good grip, chest‑height, elbows in, and heads up.
Rory was Coaches’ Player for his brilliant try-scoring and hard work throughout the session.
Under 9s | Marcus, Hayden & Seb
Another excellent training session, continuing the introduction to contact. The focus was on staying low, hitting hard and chasing the feet through the tackle.
The games at the end were real try-fests and showed what is possible when finding space or making a break on a big pitch.
Teammate of the week was Marcus, who was apprehensive at the start of the matches but, after a pep talk, was fully committed and made a number of hard charges with the ball.
Tackler of the week was Hayden, once again showing that size is no impediment and he showed wonderful commitment in defence.
Player of the week was Seb; he made big hits in defence but really shone in attack. He scored loads of tries, including with his trademark 'Seb Spin' at one point.
Under 10s | Humphrey & Seb
Humphrey was our player of the week, showing some great skills on either side of the ball. In attack, he was direct and dynamic with his running and made some great tackles in defence.
Seb was the Rucker of the week, making great decisions at the breakdown, leading to him making multiple turnovers. Great effort, lads!
Under 10s | Freddie & Tom
The Rucker of the week was Freddie, as he was actively listening and demonstrating the different rucking techniques we had covered in the drills. This culminated in some superb rucking from him in the final match.
Tom was our player of the week in his first week of training. Despite being brand new to the club, he was keen and committed in everything he did, showing some nice handling skills and tackling technique. Great job, boys!
Under 11s | Isaac
Isaac won player of the week for his focused attention in the skill sessions and then applying the knowledge learnt in a game situation, where he had an outstanding performance. Well done Isaac!
Under 12s | Dylan, Matthew, Alexander
Tackler of the Week – Dylan’s tracking back was outstanding today. He worked hard off the ball, chased everything down, and showed real commitment in every defensive moment.
Team player of the Week – This was Matthew’s first proper session after trying rugby at school, and he slotted straight in. He showed confidence, listened well, and put in a great shift throughout the drills and the match.
Coaches’ Player of the Week – Alexander consistently puts in maximum effort in every drill and during the match. His attitude sets a great example for the rest of the team
Ravens Under 14s | Isla
Massive well done to Isla S, our U14 Raven of the Week. Excellent effort and attitude across what has been a tough week of training - thoroughly deserved.
Under 13s | Freddie
Freddie was player of the week for his great control of the game, playing at 10. He made some fantastic passes and defended well with some cracking tackles.
Colts | Charlie
Bassett's Colts were away at Ross-on-Wye. It was a really good team performance, with plenty of strong performances across the pitch.
MotM goes to Charlie - two outstanding finishes and a real threat every time he had the ball.

And now the focus turns to our Minis Festival, taking place at Ballards Ash over the next two weekends. We’re looking forward to welcoming visiting teams, coaches and supporters for two weekends of rugby, friendship and plenty of fun — and hopefully plenty of sunshine too!
