It was a big weekend at Ballards Ash with Week One of the RWBRFC Minis Festival, as our Under 10s, Under 11s and Under 12s took to the field.

And they weren’t the only ones in action — our older Youth teams were also serving up plenty of highlights to round off a busy few days of rugby.

Under 10s | Oscar & Alfie

Oscar had a fantastic festival this week! His running was powerful and determined, making great breaks that led to several well-earned tries. Not only was he sharp in attack, but he also put in a brilliant defensive effort, showing real commitment and teamwork. Well done, Oscar – a top performance all round!

Alfie played really well in the tournament this week. He scored several tries thanks to aggressive ball carrying, pushing through tackles and not giving up.

Ravens Under 12s | Tilly-Lilly

The honour of this week’s U12’s Ravens of the week goes to Tilly-Lilly, who stepped up with her first tackles and some blistering runs down the wing.

Under 11s | Squad

An excellent performance across the board, getting stuck into rucks and mauls and spreading the balls wide when opportunities presented themselves. Loads of positives from the under-11s squad!

Under 12s | Squad

it’s impossible to single out one player so this week we want to celebrate the whole squad for their effort, teamwork, skill, movement and overall support for each other. We’re really proud of every single one of them and are super excited for the rest of the season!

Under 14s | Heath

U14s Player of the match against Tetbury/Minety was Heath, who ran hard all game. He scored a first-half hat-trick playing up the hill. He then subbed for the opposition and went to play uphill for the last quarter of the game too.

Under 13s | Micah

Micah made a stunning debut for Bassett in his very first game!

Micah carried the ball with real speed and determination, constantly driving the team up the pitch and keeping us on the front foot throughout the match. His efforts were rewarded with multiple tries, capping off an outstanding all-round performance. Well done, Micah — a brilliant start to your rugby journey.

Ravens Under 16s | Kat & Dotty

Despite facing a strong and well-drilled opposition, our U16 girls showed tremendous heart and resilience in their latest fixture. The other team took an early lead and maintained control for much of the first half, but our squad refused to back down.

In a spirited second-half comeback, the girls rallied together to score three outstanding team tries, showcasing their determination, teamwork, and growing confidence on the pitch.

Player of the Match (Team Vote): Kat — for her powerful runs and relentless tackling that kept the team fighting throughout. Emily was also player of the week for her desire and commitment to never give up on her first game for the club

Player of the Match (Opposition Vote): Dotty — recognised for her sharp sniping runs and pinpoint conversions.

A tough result, but a proud performance. Onward and upward!

Under 15s | Oscar

Man of the match this week for us, and was also awarded man of the match by Chippenham, was Oscar! Led the link-up between the forwards and backs excellently with his communication and his decision-making on both sides of the ball was first-class!

Under 15s | Tomas

Tough day at the office, but great effort shown by all the squad with many playing out of position. Scrum was excellent and dominant; lineouts good. Some great structured play in the first half. Struggled at the ruck, and passive in defence. Player of the match was Tomas for his hard running and work rate in defense.

RugbyFest!

Next weekend, RugbyFest is coming to Royal Wootton Bassett RFC on Sunday 7th October, and the whole club will be buzzing with action both on and off the pitch.

The day kicks off with week two of the RWBRFC Minis Festival, featuring Under 7, Under 8, and Under 9 teams from across the region.
