It was a weekend full of mud and rugby as our Minis, Juniors and Ravens hit the pitch 🖐🏿 Here’s how they left their mark!

Under 6s | Eric & Ada

This weekend, our squad braved chilly temperatures for a bumper session with 21 enthusiastic players.

We had 2x Player awards this week. Eric was a standout performer, earning the title through his hard work and dedication. His agility and quick footwork shone during our drills, and he displayed impressive ball-handling skills while evading defenders. We also recognised Ada for her determination and hard work throughout the session.

We worked on foot speed, and direction changes. The players had a blast trying to outwit each other while also working on passing and tagging drills.

Under 7s | Noah

Without any opposition this week we took the opportunity to do more skills work. All the players did really well practicing sidesteps, tagging, passing and running support lines. When it came to the matches it was good to see these skills then come to the fore.

Our U7 player of the week was Noah. He tried really hard the whole session, won one of the games of bulldog, listened really well, organised his defensive line and ran well in attack.

Under 9s | Ruari

Ruari took what we did in the drills today and applied it in the game. Ready and up in defence fearlessly making lots of strong tackles and formidable in attack.

Under 10s | Euan & Harry

Euan was our player of the week displaying soft hands throughout the session and direct hard running leading to a splendid try.

Harry showed tenacious tackling with sound technique today & was the tackler of the week.

Under 11s | Theo

Our player of the week went to Theo who showed great leadership and organisation skills to get the teams working effectively together.

Under 12s | Joshua

It was such a tough pick for player of the week this week.. but the standout player was Joshua who’s aggressive tackling and the way he hit the breakdown, working hard to win the ball in defence and in attack.. along with Good strong running beating defenders. Standout moment was his excellent kick and chase, tackling the player into touch and winning the ball back!

Outstanding Joshua well done.

Under 13s | Oliver & Callum

The U13s played at Corsham against the combined Avonvale / Corsham & Avon team. Players of the match and winners of Rufus the mascot were Oliver and Callum who played the entire game at 9 and 10 providing the control and go-forward that was at the heart of a great team performance.

Under 14s | Casey

Our Player of the Week went to Casey who made an excellent debut for us, dominated their loose head in the scrums, excellent work rate around the field always looking to carry which resulted in him scoring one of our trys. Well played.

Under 14s | Team

What a cracking performance today over at North Dorset. All 15 of the boys played their hearts out and left everything on the pitch.
There is no player of the week as the team put in such a strong performance today. The boys left their strongest performance to the end where everything clicked. The defence in all games was superb and they showed what they can do when turning defence into attack.

Under 12s | Emily

Today’s PUP held in Chinnor saw our U12 Ravens team up with Reading Abbey. It was an extremely physical day with short games and fast turn arounds between games which set the tone for the pace of the day. Chinnor ran a tight ship and put together an excellent day. Despite strong opposition our Ravens stuck at it throughout all of the games, and we made each game competitive.

Emily was Raven of the day today, she never took a backwards step and was tenacious all day. 🌹

Under 16s | Finn

Voted by the opposition, Finn delivered a great performance at fullback. He was reliably solid in defence while his attacking play created try scoring opportunities for his team. He kicked reliably from hand and slotted all his conversions, rounding off a complete and well-deserved Man of the Match display.

Ravens | Red Roses Festival

The Under 14 Bassett Ravens headed to Winchester RFC this weekend for a Red Roses Rugby Festival under the gaze of England internationals Abby Dow, Jess Breach, Connie Powell and Liz Crake.

Minis Mascots at the Rec

Our Minis section took over the Rec on Saturday. Eighty kids from Under 7s to Under 12s took part in pre match training. With their families we were 230 members strong!

They did a great job of cheering the players on during guard of honour before watching the first half of the match. They then treated the spectators to a half time parade.

Despite the bitterly cold conditions everyone had a great time!
