The rain was relentless this weekend, but so were our younger players!

Splashes, puddles, and plenty of mud made for classic winter rugby conditions, and our Minis, Juniors, and Ravens waded right through it. If commitment could be measured in damp socks, we’d have set a new club record.

Here are the highlights...

Under 6s | Charlie

Under 6 player of the week was Charlie! During a passing drill he was always ready to accept the ball with his bear claws at the ready!
He ran fast during dodgeball weaving in and out of the balls being thrown.

He listened well and it was great to see his confidence increase as the session progressed.

Under 7s | Gethin

Our Under-7s hosted Hungerford this weekend in wet, and muddy conditions. The kids loved every minute, showing great energy and teamwork despite the weather.
After a warm-up, we split into teams and introduced a three-pass minimum before tries, encouraging collaboration over solo runs. The adjustment worked brilliantly, with plenty of passing and shared effort on display.

Coach’s Player of the Week went to Gethin, whose commitment and performance stood out across the matches.

Under 8s | Joseph

It was proper rugby weather of blowing wind and pouring rain as we welcomed Hungerford to Ballards Ash. Despite the weather, the kids did really well, maybe responding to the encouragement that running around would keep them warm. We worked on passing, evasion and catching on the run, then went into matches.
In the matches, the skills practised were on show, and an exponent of them was Joseph, who got the Player of the Week. He was always available in support and scored a glorious try where he took a pass in his stride and motored down the sideline to score in the corner.

Under 9s | Reuben & Eric

Player of the week Reuben with a great all round performance and great solo try to help his team win the game.

Tackler of the week Eric put his body on the line for all games and carried on tackling every game in some tricky conditions.

Under 10s | Agnes & Millie

Agnes had a fantastic all-round game today. She was everywhere we needed her to be — running in support, taking passes with confidence, and running forward. Her work at the ruck was outstanding, securing possession for her team. In contact, she kept the play alive, offloading intelligently and keeping the momentum going.

Anges was busy both on and off the ball, constantly putting herself in the right place to help her teammates and make a difference. Well done.

Mille also won player of the match today for her excellent carrying, leading to several tries. She also hit every ruck she could, securing the ball for Bassett and driving the opponent team off the ball for several turnovers.

Well done, ladies!

Under 11s | Jack & Dylan

Jack was our player of the week, displaying speed and agility, manipulating the opposition defence with his footwork. His decision-making of when to run and pass was really on point, culminating in a great team try.

Dylan quietly goes about his work, committing to breakdowns and doing the basics really well. He was this week’s Rucker of the week!

Under 12s | Jack & Leo

Our two players of the week today were Jack and Leo - Jack was excellent at scrum half today, with some great sniping at the breakdown, good game control and intelligent kicking, whilst Leo had a strong game on the wing, particularly in defence, with some solid tackles.

Ravens Under 12s | Social

The next best thing to a match....is a social.  Under 12s Ravens had a Sunday evening trip to Laser Quest. There was even team talk of a defensive line!

Under 13s | Sam

A big shoutout to Sam after a massive performance at prop in tough rainy and windy conditions. He worked tirelessly at the ruck all game, with two huge early tackles setting the tone for what was to come.

Outstanding scrum work alongside his front row teammates gave the opposition no advantage whatsoever. A well-deserved award for a very gritty performance! Well done Sam.

Ravens Under 16s | Eliza

The Ravens U16 Girls played Dings Crusaders. The Ravens came out firing with strong runs, great support play, and dominant scrummaging that kept the pressure on throughout. Their teamwork and determination led to a commanding victory.

Highlight: Denishia scored her first try – a fantastic achievement!

Player’s Player: Eliza for her outstanding performance.

A brilliant all-round display from the squad!

Under 14s | Benjamin & Rio

A tough game in atrocious conditions at Frome for the U14s. Forward of the day was Benjamin for great carrying and a well taken try. Back of the day was Rio playing out of position at 10 who kept the game moving well.

Under 15s | Alex & Tomos

At Newbury, both Alex and Tomos stood out for their outstanding carrying and dogged defensive work. Putting us on the front foot many times. Well done, both! Also, a mention for Jack Cullen who received the Newbury man of the match!

At Swindon, it was a very narrow loss, and to pick a single player from a team that put their all into a game, despite conditions, would be unfair. So this week it goes to the whole team who played Swindon. We go again next week!!

Ravens Under 18s | Dorset & Wilts Representation

Kacey, Eva, Izzy and Emily from our U18 girls team represented Dorset & Wilts U18s Girls against Oxfordshire on Sunday.

Kacey played 2, Eva played 7, Izzy played 15, and Emily played as a finisher, 18.

Congratulations to all!
