Our Minis, Juniors, Ravens and Colts were all out playing rugby this weekend. Here is how they got on...

Under 6s | George

This week’s session was brightened by sunny skies, providing a welcome change from last week’s cold. We welcomed our new coach, Fraser, and the kids were in high spirits as we focused on skill development and teamwork, wrapping up the session with bulldog and dodgeball.
George was Coach's Player of the Week. His hard work and willingness to help impressed both coaches and teammates, reflecting the values we strive to instill in our players. Well done George.

Under 7s | George

It was glorious weather for rugby and that was matched by some of the rugby on display. The kids are really starting to get the skills and concepts of under 7 rugby. With lots of kids travelling down from the visiting club of Stow on the Wold as well as plenty from Bassett too, we were able to have 3 matches happening simultaneously.
The player of the week was George D who got tags when defending, but excelled further in attack. Both when keeping up in support and scoring tries through elusive running.

Under 8s | Marley

Marley displayed excellent understanding of the game today. Stayed in space and brilliant skills passing and supporting his teammates. A thorough well done!

Under 10s | George & Corban

Player of the week was George for his tenacity throughout the session getting stuck into tackles and bouncing back after big contacts.

Corban made two exceptional try saving tackles showing great speed and determination to catch players who made clean breaks. Excellent work both Players!

Under 9s | Alfie

Alfie is consistent in his efforts week in week out. Displaying good technique in all aspects of the game while maintaining good teamwork. Brilliant effort Alfie.

Under 11s | Archie & Oliver

Leading the way today was Archie, who deservedly won player of the week with his consistent work rate, driving runs and tough tackling. Tackle of the week goes to Oliver, who is always one of our strongest tacklers, but led by example today with some really big hits.

Under 14s | Yitak

Player of the week this week went to Yitak!
He played back at fullback this week and was excellent, his positioning in defence was great, and he dealt with every kick that came his way.

Under 12s | Elliott

With so many stand out performances today whether that was Donald with his try’s , Joshua with his aggression, Toby and Carwyn at the ruck, Graysons runs.. that’s just a few to mention..

However, this week’s player of the week for the Under 12's goes to Elliott his ball distribution from rucks and scrums throughout the game was great.. but his continuous running and chasing players down making last ditch tackles on multiple occasions made him a standout player for today.

Under 13s | Benjamin

Player of the match in a great team performance at Frome was Benjamin who scored two tries. This included a long range effort along the touch line that started at half-way skittling plenty of defenders.

Ravens Under 12s | MJ

Today’s game played on the rolling moors of Thornbury rugby club, saw our Ravens take an early lead with some commanding tries from Isla H and Daisy making her signature menacing runs. Our second game against the Pumas this season was as closely contested as the last, with our Ravens sticking at it until the very end, when it was so close the game could have gone our way.

Impressive performances from many of the girls today, but stand out performances from MJ who tackled like a demon, and Emily who saved several tries, stealing the ball on the line meant they both shared Raven of the week. 🪨 📄 ✂️ winner MJ took home the 🐦‍⬛. On Friday we will be revisiting our tackling to put the opposition under pressure.

Well done all, see you Friday!

Ravens Under 18s | Emily

Royal Hurricanes U18 v Cinderford U18s. It was a tough day at the office for the barbarian's side, going down 50-0 to a strong and well-drilled Cinderford side. Player of the match Emily.

Ravens Under 14s | Alyssa

The Ravens U14s participated in a 10s tournament organised by Bath Rugby. They only had 10 players on the day, and played 3 strong teams. They all enjoyed the occasion and played for each other. Our player of the day was Alyssa for her rucking and strong runs with multiple hand offs

Ravens Under 16s | Roxy & Eioza

Ravens U16 v Avonmouth. The Ravens took to the field with just 12 players after the opposition couldn’t field a full side, and we’d like to give a special shout-out to Evie for stepping in and playing for Avonmouth!

From the kick-off, the Ravens were in full control, with powerful runs and excellent support play leading to a flurry of tries. Despite the scoreline, Avonmouth fought hard and managed to break through our defence late in the game, showing great resilience.

It was clear to see the impact of our recent training, with some fantastic phases of play. Tries came from Roxy, Izzy, Evie, Eliza, and Eloise, while Eva was absolutely on fire, converting 7 out of 8 kicks. Great performance all around!

Players player: Roxy and opposition player: Eliza

Under 16s | Olly

Playing at fullback, Olly made a big statement in attack and defence. His excellent cover tackles and penetrating runs kept the opposition on the back foot for the majority of the game. It was great to see him back to full strength and imposing himself on the game to such good effect.

Under 16s | Fin

Fin playing at 10 linked seamlessly with his 9 and really imposed himself on the match as the playmaker. Against tough opposition he delivered a flawless performance during which he released his backs at the opportune moments, kicked well for territory, made a number of try saving tackles. scored a try and kicked the extra points.

Well done Fin.

Under 15s | Fraser

On Sunday the U15's travelled to Corsham to play in a 3 way match with Bradford on Avon as well as Corsham. Two competive games played in a good rugby spirit.

Our player of the week was Fraser who showed that half backs can tackle and ruck too.

Colts | Archie

The Bassett Colts won a hard fought game against RAMS.

The Mom was Archie who moved to Centre today and played well, with great defence and hard chases showing what he can do in attack.

There was a number of strong performances today, pleasing our coaches who and looking forward to training this week.
