Our youth players were back out on the pitch this weekend. Lets find out how they got on...

Under 6s | Jasper

The under 6's braved another cold day of training, showcasing impressive dedication and teamwork. We welcomed Marlborough's under 6 team this week. Despite the muddy pitches, we focussed on essential ball handling and passing skills, keeping the children active with running drills to stay warm and active.
A huge congratulations to Jasper, our Coach's Player of the Week, for his great focus and promise! We look forward to welcoming our friends from Marlborough again soon.

Under 7s | Euan

On another chilly morning at Ballards Ash, there was more progress on display. Some of the catching the ball at pace would put some adults to shame and there was side stepping on display that Jason Robinson would be proud of.
In the matches there was great support play and tenacious defence. The side with only 3 players did particularly well, especially with their passing. The player of the week was Euan who scored some superb tries and showed great perseverance.

Under 8s | Monty

Monty was player of the week for U8s for being a great team player! He worked hard in defence and supported his team mates in attack! He did some great passes and scored many tries!

Under 8s | Finley

Finley was player of the week for U8s for providing incredible defence! He put in non stop effort and was taking tags left, right and centre! He followed instructions accurately and was quick to set in the defensive line.

Under 9s | Kimani

Kimani is our player of the week. On attack he was difficult to stop. He also passed the ball well and involved his team mates. What impressed us most was his defence, he made tackles all over the pitch, completing one after the other, and driving the opposition back. Well done Kimani, keep it up.

Under 10s | Hunter & Alexander

Tackler of the week was Hunter. He stepped in with some big hits during the games, giving his side a real opportunity at the breakdown.

Player of the week was Alexander. Alexander was praised by all the coaches (including Marlboroughs) with his lead by example attitude. First up in the line of defence, always on hand as support and great communication skills.

Under 11s | Rory

Player of this week goes to Rory for his fantastic support play, tackling and rucking. Tackle of week went to Theo for two massive hits!

Under 12s | Theo

Player of the week for the under 12's went to Theo this morning who played his best game of the season so far, constantly securing the ball at the ruck, being strong as the opposition tried to counter ruck.. giving our scrum half that little extra time to play the ball. Well done Theo.

Ravens Under 12s | Eliza

After the cold of the week before, we decided to head inside and enjoy the warmth of the gym. The girls competed sprints, wall sits, press-ups, lots of running and worked on our defence along with some solo challenges. They worked very hard and helped encourage each other on, showing great team spirit. Each week us coaches are blown away by how hard the girls work, despite our efforts to wear them out the girls energy levels are always high as are their huge smiles. We were also treated to a very loud sing song by the girls to Miley Cyrus😂.

As our U12 Ravens had a rest weekend our U11’s dropped back down to play rugby with the boys. Eliza, Raven of the week for winning the leg raise and wall sits challenges scored the try of the day with her agile footwork and great turn of pace, to run the length of the field and score in the corner. Each of the girls represented the Ravens and did themselves proud. Well done to all this week, see you next Friday to prepare for our game on Sunday🐦‍⬛

Under 14s | Kian

Our player of the week is Kian. Excellent running with ball today and always managing to find holes in the Melksham defence resulting in his hat trick of Trys.

Ravens Under 14s | Bella & Eva

It was a very tight game between 2 spirited sides. Clevedon had the better of the first half with 2 opportunistic tries.

With outstanding performances from a number of our players, it was very difficult to pick a player of the match. Bella was awarded the honours for great defence and some brilliant sideline runs. Eva was voted player of the match by the opposition for her stalwart defence and attacking runs.

Under 15s | Jamie

The U15's hosted Stow this weekend. A great competitive game played in a true rugby spirit by both sides. Player of the week is Jamie. He learnt a new position on Friday night and executed it well in the game.

Under 16s | Jake

In a hard game that was keenly contested by both sides, the momentum shifted from one team to the other on several occasions. While all the Bassett lads played their part in this impressive win, Jake epitomised the never give up spirit of the team. In the final 10 minutes Jake made a run from his own half to break a sustained period of opposition dominance and score the try that effectively stalled Bristol Harlequin’s momentum and set the scene for a grandstand finish by Bassett’s U16s.
