It was another busy Sunday for our Minis, Juniors, Ravens and Colts, with some of our M&J teams heading to local neighbours Supermarine RFC, while others were training or playing matches at home and away.

Wherever they were, our young players were keeping busy and enjoying another weekend of rugby. Here are the highlights:

Under 6s | Bertie

Bertie was the Under 6 player of the week this week. We travelled to our first away game on a rather cold Sunday morning, but this didn't deter him. Bertie got stuck in, showing great determination, movement and listening. Helping demonstrate the skills we have been working on and applied them well in a game situation.

Really well done!

Under 7s | Ada

This week the Under 7s travelled to Swindon Supermarine for some games. After a quick warm-up, we got straight into the games.

Ada volunteered to play for Supermarine as they were a player short. I was super impressed with this as it showed Ada’s courage playing with players she didn’t know.

I think Ada’s teammates wish she hadn’t played for Supermarine, as she was a constant thorn in Bassett’s side. Scoring multiple tries and getting multiple tags.

The Supermarine coach even asked her to sign for them, offering her a try bonus of a chocolate per try!!! Well done Ada.

Under 8s | Fraser & Tommy

Our Under-8s visited Supermarine this week for a brilliant series of matches across two RWB teams. Everyone put in a stellar performance full of teamwork and energy!

Having two teams, we selected two Coaches' Players of the Week this week. Tommy for a fantastic all-round performance. Fraser for his strong tenacity on the pitch. Huge well done to you both.

It was a great morning, capped off with some well-earned hot dogs.

Under 10s | Skyla, Charlie & Jake

The U10’s had two outstanding players of the week, one from each team: Skyla and Charlie. Skyla had a typically classy performance, showing great speed and skill with the ball in hand today. Charlie was powerful in his carrying and made some crunching tackles in defence. A great showing from both these players!💪

Jake was our Rucker of the week, displaying a real understanding of when to go in and secure the ball or counter-ruck the opposition in the breakdown.

A very strong display from all our players today at Supermarine, but a special mention to these three standout players!

Under 9s | Ted, Luca & Coby

We had an excellent session away at Supermarine, who had some very big and very skilful players. There was lots of effort on show, with plenty of tries scored and some nice passing. Tackling continues to be an area for development. With a tackle bag race between the coaches and the kids at the end to show how it is done…

One player who did lead the way with tackling was Ted; he got Tackler of the Week, as even though he is one of our smallest players, he was able to bring down their biggest player.

Luca got Teammate of the Week for his listening, dedication in the training drills and effort during the matches.

Player of the Week was Coby. His effort on defence is exemplary, and his try-scoring is exceptional, running around multiple opposition defenders on numerous occasions to score lots of tries.

Under 11s | Atti & Barney

This week we fielded two teams against Supermarine, which means we have two well-deserved Players of the Week, one from each team!

Atti was switched on from the start and put in a fantastic performance. He was excellent in defence, making some great tackles, and was really destructive with his strong running.

What particularly stood out was his sportsmanship. When Supermarine went a player down, Atti gladly put his hand up, pulled on a bib and stepped in to help them out. He was just as effective playing for the opposition, making a real difference to their team.

A brilliant example of both rugby ability and the spirit of the game. Well done, Atti!

Barney had a fantastic game, carrying the ball strongly, making good metres and scoring a couple of excellent tries!

What really stood out this week was his communication and distribution. He was calling for the ball, looking for his teammates and making some great passes to keep the ball moving and bring others into the game.

A really strong all-round performance. Well done, Barney!

Well done to both our Players of the Week!

Under 12s | Harry & Oliver

Great effort from everyone in our first game since the festival. Really good to see the hard work in training starting to show on the pitch.

Coaches’ Player – Harry: Great confidence and direct running, causing havoc in attack.

Player of the Match – Oliver: Brilliant work around the field and in the rucks, showing real strength and some powerful attacking play.

Under 13s | Oliver

Oliver’s work rate was outstanding today. He kept on tackling and fighting for every ball right to the very end - his strength, leadership and determination to succeed are a real inspiration to the whole team.

Under 14s | Sam

A fantastic performance from Sam in a great local derby!

Sam was instrumental in our dominance at scrum time, playing a huge part in giving the team a strong platform. He carried the ball with real determination, made some important tackles and showed great strength and commitment in the ruck, helping us retain possession and build pressure.

On top of his individual performance, Sam led the team brilliantly as captain, setting the standard through his effort, determination and leadership. Well done, Sam!

Ravens Under 14s | Indie

A fantastic performance from Indie today: We're really starting to see her contidence grow on both sides of the ball. She made some powerful runs, carried with real determination and wasn't afraid to get stuck in when it was time to defend.

It's brilliant to see her development and growing belief in herself. A thoroughly deserved Raven of the week!

Ravens Under 16s | Lexi & Elliot

A great away win at Melksham. We went away with 11 players and each one of them stepped up and put on a great display. They all played for one another and when times got tough they dug deep and battled on to get the win.

Melksham's player of the match went Lexi for some great tackling and awesome carries. She hit some great lines and contributed to many of our tries.

Our player of the week went to Elliott. She had a cracking game and made some awesome carries and grew in confidence as the game progressed.

Well done, both.

Under 15s | Joey & Callum

The Under 15s had a challenging game at home to Stow this week. Coach's player of the week was Joey - playing well on the wing and scoring a try on debut for Bassett.

The Stow Players voted Callum as their player of the match. Callum played both 10 and 15 during the game, showing us his versatility and goal-kicking.

Colts | Guy

On Sunday, the Colts played Cobras, and it was a great performance by all who pulled on the Bassett shirt.

Our MOTM Guy really stepped up, dominating collisions all over the pitch and scoring a brace of tries in the process.

Ravens Rising Stars

Our Ravens U12s were among the 670 young players from 35 grassroots teams who took part in the Bristol Bears Foundation’s Rising Stars Cup festival at Bristol Grammar School Sports Ground.

The girls were recognised as TREDs champions and selected to represent Bristol Bears at the Premiership Rugby final in June – a fantastic achievement and something to be proud of.

Thanks to Bristol Bears Foundation for hosting the festival, and to Nicky Mockridge for the photos.
