Unfortunately due to pressures of a new and expanding job, Andy Morris is going to step down as club treasurer at the end of the current financial year (31st March).

In these circumstances, we are now looking for a candidate to replace Andy and work alongside Mark Woods our Assistant Treasurer.

Ideally a suitable candidate would have the appropriate accountancy qualifications and have a working knowledge of QuickBooks.  It would be our preference to have a candidate recruited from within our membership, however we would be more than happy to discuss the role with an external candidate who has an interest in being part of our community club.

The key requirements of the role are as follows:

  • To be the lead and therefore go-to-person on all aspects of Club finance.
  • Deal with the accounting for membership fees.
  • Oversee and monitor all payments out of and into the Club’s bank a/c.
  • Be responsible for Club VAT returns and claims.
  • Liaise with the external payroll provider’s and Auditor.
  • Work with the Club finance team in producing forward budgets and cashflows.
  • Deliver monthly cashflow and P&L reports to the Executive committee.

If anyone is interested in the position (or knows someone who might be) please don’t hesitate to contact me or Andrew Gassor for an exploratory chat.

In the meantime, I’m sure you will be interested to read the following personal message from Andy.

Best wishes for the New Year,

Chris Elias and Andrew Gassor

Ever since first getting involved with the rugby club over 20 years ago when playing for the colts at Stoneover Lane it has been great to see the club develop and continuing to see it go from strength to strength.

For the past 3 seasons it has been a great honour to be Treasurer of Royal Wootton Bassett RFC and assist supporting the clubs development further as we came out of the pandemic. In that time we have had 2 seasons at the highest level of rugby ever played by the club, having 4 senior men's teams on a regular basis, an ever growing minis and junior section along with the growth the the ladies section. Alongside the on-field progress, we have completed the gym project and finalised the recent office conversion providing more space for the rugby club and potential space to generate further funds and we remain in a strong financial position all to support further rugby development.

Over the past few months I have had to look at how much time I can dedicate to the role of Treasurer on a voluntary basis, since changing jobs earlier this year. Alongside this I have significant family commitments that are ever changing with a young family. As a result of this change in circumstances and how much time I can dedicate to the role, I have unfortunately taken the decision to step down as Treasurer from 31st March 2024.

From speaking with the Executive Committee I will continue to support when I am able to do so and will assist in the transition to the person undertaking the post moving forwards. I would like to take this opportunity thank Terry, Mark W, Chris, Andrew, Dave and the wider executive team for their ongoing support all of course on a voluntary basis.

I look forward to seeing how the club continues to progress and assisting where I can in the future.

Kind regards.

Andy Morris

Treasurer, Royal Wootton Bassett RFC
