In September 2023, Royal Wootton Bassett Rugby Club embarked on an ambitious journey to make an impact in the Swindon and North Wiltshire area by employing a dedicated Community Rugby Coach.
This initiative aimed to reintroduce structured sports coaching to local primary and secondary schools, filling the gap left by a diminishing number of qualified teachers delivering sport in schools.
The results have been nothing short of phenomenal. School staff and students have showered the programme with praise, particularly highlighting the significant increase in girls' participation in rugby—a testament to the programme's inclusivity and effectiveness.
Our Community Rugby initiative was made possible thanks to the generosity of one of our key sponsors. However, as this support nears its end, we face the challenge of continuing the growth of this vital programme.
