And we're back!
After what seems like just a blink of an eye, summer is over and our young players have returned to Ballards Ash. Let's catch up with some of the highlights from Week One:
Under 6s | Oscar
Oscar is a new starter for the season. He was a little nervous but soon got stuck into the session and did really well.
Under 7s | George
George got player of the week. He was tenacious in defence, ran support lines in attack and scored try’s as a result.
Under 8s | Charlie
Charlie got player of the week this week for listening carefully to instructions.
Under 9s | Alfie
Alfie had his first session playing Rugby, and as an age group we had our first tackle session. Alfie listened to the coaches instructions, and implemented them very well. During our matches, his tackles were low and effective. Well done Alfie and welcome to the team, keep it up.
Under 10s | Leighton
Leighton's first session with the under 10’s was an impressive one, showing some great handling and very dynamic ball carrying. He is a most welcome addition to this group, well done Leighton.
Under 11s | Rory
Rory hit the ground running for our first session back today. He was tenacious in his tackling and rucking and overall had a great attitude
Under 12s | Squad
The Squad picked up player of the week.. great enthusiasm for the first Sunday training session of the season, great to see the togetherness of this group.
Under 14s | Josh
Player of the week was Josh! His hard running was rewarded when he Scored two brilliant tries.
Under 16s | Save
Today we had two U15s playing up into the U16s, both played outstanding scoring two trys a piece. The decision was to give Save man of the match he played outside centre and made a number of good tackles and game line breaks that gave us front foot ball.
Under 16s | Ed
Ed had ended last season showing great promise, he's been working hard through off season and pre season. This really showed today making great runs taking 2 or 3 tackler in every run, well done Ed.
Ravens Under 18s | Chloe
The Ravens U18s played their first league game of the season at home against local rivals Chippenham.
Unfortunately Chippenham weren't able to field a full side so in line with league rules we matched numbers and played with uncontested scrums.
It was a tough day in the heat with Chippenham's predominantly backs lineup taking full advantage of the extra space and running in 13 tries to Bassetts 3. That being said there, the Ravens played hard till the end putting in a hard shift. There were some outstanding performances from many, not least Emily for a huge defensive effort, Amy running the hard yards and Vivian who took gruber kicking to a new level.
Player of the Match was Chloe.
