Rain? Wind? Mud? It was weather for fish — but our youth teams were reeling in the fun anyway!

The wet conditions proved that no amount of bad weather can dampen Bassett’s rugby spirit. From soggy tries to muddy celebrations, you could say they were hooked on rugby!

Here are the highlights from another unforgettable weekend of youth rugby...

Under 6s | Freddie & Bertie

Freddie - Freddie showed great ball skills in the game and scored several tries. He looked for space and passed well from the restarts.

Bertie - Bertie was very brave in dodgeball and did some great tackling in bulldog. He got stuck in all session and did some great passing in our passing drill.

Under 7s | Rory

Rory was named the coach’s player of the week after scoring some great tries and showing smart thinking with his passing during a very muddy, wet session. His awareness on the pitch really stood out.

The day ended with plenty of laughs as parents joined in for a lively game of bulldog, bringing lots of energy and fun to round off the session in style.

Under 8s | Rupert

On a wet and windy morning, there was still plenty of quality rugby on display. With the squad working on defensive line speed, making ground in attack and defending close to the touch line.

Rupert got player of the week for his all-around effort. Scoring a number of tries and working hard in defence.

Under 9s | Sofia

Sofia was this week's player of the week. At the start of the session, she wasn’t feeling confident about tackling, but she listened really well and tried her hardest in all the drills. By the games in the second half of the session, she had overcome her nerves and was hitting the tackles with full confidence and really good form. Well done, Sofia.

Under 10s | Saxon

This week’s standout player was Saxon! He was sharp on defence, getting stuck into multiple battles and making his presence felt all over the field. On attack, he was busy, confident, and showed great determination — finishing it off with a couple of brilliant tries. Well done, Saxon — great all-round performance!

Under 11s | Oliver & Harry

Rucker of the Week – Oliver demonstrated outstanding effort and skill during this week’s training session. His ability to secure and steal possession was instrumental in the success of his side during the training games. He continues to make the ruck his second home, showing great commitment and consistency.

Player of the Week – Harry has made remarkable progress since recently taking up rugby. He is already proving to be a valuable member of the team, displaying strong ball carries in attack and excellent tackling technique in defence. His continued improvement and positive attitude are a credit to his hard work and dedication.

Under 12s | Alex

Today, the Under 12s really focused on their tackles. Everyone put in a great effort, but Alex really shone, putting in some amazing tackles in the drills and in the game. Well done!

Ravens Under 12s | Emily

Our U12 Raven of the Day was Emily, who stood out for sheer determination. She was everywhere - smashing tackles, hitting rucks, and leaving absolutely nothing out there. An incredible effort from start to finish.

Ravens Under 14s | Monika

Today, the Under 14s Girls joined forces with the Warriors from Hungerford for an epic match against Petersfield in pretty atrocious conditions. To say that we were proud of the girls today would be a huge understatement - they were all awesome, running out winners and really demonstrating all the skills, motivation and teamwork that we’ve been working on in training this week.

It was really tough to pick out just one player of the week, as everyone worked really hard and showed what it means to be a Raven, but Monika showed true grit and determination all game, absolutely nailing every single tackle and just refusing to let any player get past her - a worthy winner of player of the week.

Special mentions should also go to players who were playing in unfamiliar positions today, particularly Emma and Daisy, who were both fantastic at centre and scrum half, making excellent line breaks and controlling the pace of the game. This match just reinforces the level of talent we have in this team, and what we can achieve when it all comes together - let’s build on this result and look forward to more success as the season unfolds.

Under 15s | Jack

Player of the match goes to Jack for great defence, hitting some good tackles, solid scrummaging in tough conditions and good leadership when our captain was off the field. Well done Jack.

Special mention to our players who volunteered to play for the opposition after injuries left them short.

Under 15s | Austin & Zack

Austin led the lineouts very well which helped set a solid foundation for us to build our attacks from and also had several strong carries which resulted in him bagging two tries

Zack played up from the U14s and also played out of position in the centres, where he was dominant in his defence and got us over the gain line several times with his carrying abilities!

Well done both!

Ravens U18 | Eva & Erica

What a fantastic first outing for our newly merged team against Worcester Girls! Despite what the final scoreline may suggest, this was a brilliant performance full of determination, teamwork, and passion.

The girls showed incredible grit throughout the match, making strong tackles and producing some superb attacking runs that kept Worcester on their toes.

Every player stepped up and contributed, but special mentions go to Eva and Erica, who were deservedly named Players of the Match for their outstanding effort and impact on the game. An excellent foundation to build on and a true display of team spirit!

Ravens U16 | Emily & Dotty

Emily got Player of the Match for strong runs and great communication with the team.

Dotty got the opposition's Player of the Match for making good runs and having quick feet.

Colts | Will

Man of the Match at Trowbridge – Will was chosen as today’s Man of the Match by the opposition.

Stepping into a less familiar fly-half role, he showed outstanding composure and leadership, organising a backline full of players out of position superbly against a strong Trowbridge side. His intelligent kicking and excellent game management were a real credit to him.

Colts | Harvey

Man of the Match at Witney was Harvey - dominant in the lineout, stealing the ball and setting good ball for us. Scored an excellent try and just kept running for the whole 70 minutes.
