Following the government’s announcement on Wednesday, re further social distancing measures in an attempt to curb the spread of Covid19, we have decided to cancel the club’s AGM which was planned for Tuesday 15th September.
There were no changes to the club’s existing constitution, structure or resolutions proposed (other than Georgina Plant stepping in for Steve Cameron as M&J Chairman – a role she has been doing for many months). Also, there were no Life Membership nominations, and with memberships fees staying at the same level, there was nothing of any major consequence to report for last year, other than to say it was probably the best year the club has ever experienced, both on and off the pitch!
We did consider a Zoom option for the AGM but we were of the opinion that big Zoom calls would not work particularly well, together with the difficulty of monitoring who is on the call etc, so we decided not to follow this route.
In essence therefore we have decided to follow the National Trust's format for their recent AGM, and just roll everything on for 12 months and will do a “meet the exec” event later in the year as and when circumstances allow.
We plan to upload all reports to the website for all members to read at their leisure, with any questions to be directed via the secretary which we can then cover via a Q&A addendum.
I am going to keep publishing my regular updates to keep everyone as up-to-speed as possible re the current year, which as you can appreciate remains an operational challenge. The clubhouse facility is now open for members and we will continue to do as long as guidelines allow. We will keep you informed via regular updates in this respect.
Thank you for your understanding, we hope you feel that the above is a pragmatic and practical way forward in these unprecedented times.
Take care,
Chris Elias
