A successful Royal Wootton Bassett Mini Rugby Festival
The RWBRFC Mini Rugby Festival has been running for over 15 years and has since grown to be a major event in our clubs’ calendar. The scale of the festival and the number of players we host means we now play the festival over two consecutive Sundays.
The last two weekends have seen U7, U8, U9, U10, U11, U12 teams take to the field. We had up to 19 teams in each age group from 13 local clubs. Despite the best the wet weather could throw at them, we saw around 140 games take place, with over 500 players taking part.
Our festival is first fixture of the season for most clubs, despite this, the rugby was excellent and it was great to see the players all adapting to new age group laws that were new to the teams.
A big thank you
We had plenty of senior players from our 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams help out on both Sundays. Many of our current senior players will have played in the RWBRFC festival themselves when their rugby journey was just starting out and we are very grateful for their continued support.
A huge thank you needs to be given to our amazing army of volunteers, friends and family members, as well as to the club bar staff and catering management, all of whom went above and beyond the call of duty! Without the combined efforts of everyone involved, led by our Team Managers, Coaches and festival committee members, we would not be able to stage such a successful event.
The fact that so many children were able to enjoy playing rugby across all the age groups involved, was testament to the hard work that everyone put in behind the scenes and across the two consecutive Sundays.
The RWBRFC festival remains a key festival for our local clubs and long may it continue!
