Planned boundary tree planting will help reduce the club’s carbon footprint thanks to REME and CGI.
Over the last 4 years the club has started to build up a really strong relationship with REME rugby who love to use Ballards Ash for all their important Corp and Battalion fixtures.
This year REME have signed a new 3 year sponsorship agreement with CGI Group, who are one of the largest independent IT and consulting businesses in the world.
CGI have signed up to the Government’s “No Planet B” initiative, which is aimed at tackling the UK’s carbon emissions. For their part CGI have funded the donation of 7,000 broad leaf trees to the project as a means for reducing the carbon footprint.
Planting 360 trees
Because of our link to REME, CGI have donated 360 mixed trees to RWBRFC so we can improve our boundaries.
As you will have probably seen over the last few weeks works have been undertaken at the club by our groundstaff to clear the frontage along the road (pictured below left). This work is designed to prepare the ground for the new trees, which will over time recreate a traditional hedgerow which will be good for the environment, wildlife and the club’s security.
